Lou Christie's chart-topping, multimillion record-selling career as a recording artist, performer and songwriter started in the early 1960s in a small two-track studio in Glenwillard, PA, his rural hometown near Pittsburgh. And this year (2009), nearly a half-century later, it has seen him being elected to the prestigious Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
Inbetween, the local choirboy named Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco scored numerous national hit songs, performed all around the U.S. and throughout the world, experienced both highs and lows in his career - - and has bounced back over the last 20 years to become one of the most relevant, popular and exciting acts on the Rock & Roll Nostalgia Circuit.
Lou's first million selling song, The Gypsy Cried, transformed the young “small town boy” into a national teen idol. He followed up that Top 5 smash with another huge hit, Two Faces Have I, which also featured the astonishing range and stratospheric falsetto that still characterize Lou’s voice today.
Over the decade of the 60's, Lou followed the popularity of The Gypsy Cried and Two Faces Have I with a roster of equally dynamic hit records. In 1965, he captured the ears and hearts of America with the powerful Number 1 multi-million selling Lightning Strikes; and his chart-topping success continued with two more million selling hits, Rhapsody In The Rain and I’m Gonna Make You Mine.
Lou was more than just your average "teen idol" at that time, however. He was one of the decade's first singer-songwriters who, together with his eccentric collaborator, Twyla Herbert, co-wrote nearly all of his own songs.
Over the past two decades, Lou has led a resurgence of Rock & Roll heroes performing worldwide. In addition, several distinguished movie directors started recognizing Lou’s distinctive vocal and writing performances and have included many of his songs in their major motion pictures. In fact, one of Lou’s most ambitious songs, Beyond The Blue Horizon, has been featured in a number of major films, most notably in Barry Levinson’s Oscar winning classic, Rainman.
Lou’s music is still immensely popular today, as he tours the country the year-round mixing his crowd-pleasing hits with pop and rock standards and his own new compositions to electrify his audiences. Some say his voice is better and stronger today than it ever has been, and his energy, enthusiasm and ingratiating personality on stage is rarely matched by any other acts.
In April 2009, Lou released his first new album since 2004’s Live at the Bottom Line, a compelling blend of classic and new compositions called Summer In Malibu. It is available at www.louchristie.com and on site at all of Lou’s performances. In addition, Lou’s most famous tracks can be found on various greatest hits and other collections on Varese Sarande and Rhino Records, which are available on his website, on most online music sites and in music retail outlets around the country.
The journey for Lou Christie has seen him go from Teen Idol to Rock & Roll Legend. To his multitude of fans all over the world: Lightining Lou Christie Strikes Again and Again and Again!
