In May 2007, Emmy Award winning anchor/correspondent/ host Jane Hanson joined HealthAnswersTV (www.answerstv.com/health) as a key contributor to their on-line content. Since the summer of that year, Jane has been the host of the video show, 'The Answered Patient,' a series of health programs designed to educate consumers, allowing them to better manage their health.
One of the most versatile, popular, dynamic and adept news and information professionals in the field, Jane spent more than 27 years at WNBC-TV/Channel 4, leaving her long-time 'home' in late 2006. Her range of talents and interests cover the industry gamut from program host, anchor, reporter and interviewer to emceeing non-profit galas, playing in charity golf outings and serving as a motivational and keynote speaker at corporate, association, foundation and not-for-profit functions.
Jane has been the recipient of numerous journalism awards, including receiving two Emmys in 2005 for her 'Jane’s New York' series, one of which was for her highly acclaimed 'Underground Show -- the City Beneath the City.' She also has won four Emmys for Outstanding Morning News Program for 'Today in New York,' a 1996 Emmy for Outstanding Health/Science Programming for a series of reports on 'Surviving Breast Cancer' and an Emmy for outstanding spot news coverage.
Jane joined WNBC in September 1979, and was the station’s primary anchor for its numerous local programming efforts, as well as being responsible over the years for the creation and implementation of numerous high profile reports for WNBC’s various newscasts. In addition, she hosted the highly acclaimed 'Jane’s New York' program, a locally-produced series of one-hour shows that spotlighted the interesting, unusual and unique stories that occur across New York’s five boroughs and the tri-state area.
Jane was elevated to the anchor role of 'Today in New York' in July 2003 after serving as the show's co-anchor since its debut in 1988. Also while at WNBC, she served as news anchor during many of New York's most definitive news events, including the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Blizzard of ’96, the crash of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s airplane, the Crown Heights riots and the 1980 transit strike. Demonstrating her adaptability and myriad of interests, Jane also participated in the coverage of numerous NewsChannel 4 community programs, including the New York City Marathon, the Tribeca Film Festival and the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting.
A talented and creative producer and writer, Jane has interviewed thousands of guests that have included government and military leaders, entertainers and actors, corporate giants and notable inventors, authors and medical professionals, Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, adventurers and world-class athletes during her long and meritorious career in television.
But Jane also carries with her a love for working closely with the many non-celebrities she meets and deals with on a daily basis whose stories drive and inspire her to take her life and career 'to the next level.' Whether it is giving lectures on the behind the scenes workings of television news, the 'new spirituality' or the importance of volunteerism and giving back to society, Jane is often in demand to share her thoughts and beliefs. Her long and successful career in TV has also led to her becoming a sought-after media trainer and mentor for anyone who has to deliver major speeches, deal with the media or give strategic presentations.
In 1995, the National Mother’s Day Committee named Jane an 'Outstanding Mother of the Year,' an honor she shared with then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. Jane then went on to host the event for several years afterwards. In addition, she was named 'Correspondent of the Year' by New York's Police Detectives and received a similar honor from the New York's Firefighters for her courage in covering fires. Hanson was also the recipient of the March of Dimes Media Services Award, and five years ago, she was presented with the Humanitarian Award by New York City’s Animal Control and Care agency for her show, 'A Dog’s Life.
